McClenaghan was out of the team since 2016 T20I World Cup due to poor form. He last played in the T20 world cup and has been missing from the side since then. He has found his form in IPL and has been included in the team.

Currently, Anderson is the part of Delhi Daredevils whereas McClenaghan is a member of Mumbai Indians. While Anderson is a not regular part of the franchise, McClenaghan is the main player for Mumbai and is in great form.

Adam Milne has also been given a place in the team. The selection of players in the new Zealand team have heavily been based on the conditions in England as all these three players were not in the scheme of selection but their ability in those conditions have been the main reason behind their selection.

Kane Williamson, their skipper in all the three formats of the game will continue to lead the side with Tom Latham as his deputy.

New Zealand will take on Australia in their first game before facing England and Bangladesh to complete their group stage games. Before the ICC trophy, New Zealand will also play a tri-series against Ireland and Bangladesh to prepare for the tournament.
